GALAXY 1001

PRESS RELEASE

Neo LA Gallery is pleased to present GALAXY 1001, a two-person exhibition by Los Angeles-based artists Jeffrey Sugishita and Jean-Paul Miller. Since meeting in 2023, the artists have sustained an ongoing dialogue around their interdisciplinary practices and shared worldview. This exhibition is their first collaborative presentation, uniting their distinct approaches to a common focus: colliding paths between the material and the immaterial.

The exhibition’s title, GALAXY 1001, designates a system where stars and circuitry converge, positioning humanity as matter engaged in inquiry for its own genesis. Gathering works across multiple media - Sugishita’s photographs, sculptures, and video stage a dialogue with the material world as a living extension of his own being. Miller’s sculptures, initiated in 2023, cannibalize industrial processes in steel, stripping them of utility to speak in the registers of architectural enclosure, historical absentia, and celestial formation. Together, their work invokes the extraterrestrial and the transcendental as a current of thought within material process, where the body becomes a channel for the infinite expressed through matter.
